Bend Hook

Bowling a Hook can be Done Three Different Ways!
When it comes to bowling a hook, there are three things to keep in mind: the stroker, the cranker and the helicopter. These are the three types of hooks that you can bowl with, to improve your game above the basic straight ball, which, if you are lucky will keep you in the 160 to 180 point range with your game. Hey, if you want to remain average, leave this article now and enjoy your game. But, if you want to advance your game into the upper stratosphere, or at least to the end of the alley, then read on as I describe how you can use any one or a combination of the above three ways of bowling a hook to take your game higher.
Bowling a hook implies just that: you add a twist and a turn to your straight ball, making it curve, or "hook" on its way down the lane. It usually doesn't curve until near the end of its path of travel, striking the pins at the last moment, in just the right spot, to achieve the desired result. For those of you that just barely knew there was the straight ball delivery and nothing else, let's go over the three main hook balls.
The first is called the stroker. This is a gentle hook ball, played straight up the outside of the lane. To get this technique right, you want your sliding foot to stop just before the ball reaches the bottom arc of your swing. Doing this will allow you to have just enough leverage to control the reaction of the ball. Remember to square your shoulders right when you let loose with the ball. The bowling ball should gently hook into the pocket if you've done this hook ball correctly.
Next up we have the cranker. This one is not for the feint of heart. There are so many moves associated with bowling a hook using the cranker that if you don't watch yourself there could be muscle damage. While the stroker is a gentle hook, the cranker is the complete opposite. Here you want maximum spin, because it will unleash maximum power. Stand with your feet to the left side of your approach to the foul line. Swing the bowling ball out to your left hand approach. You will want to get to the foul line before your ball does, releasing it at the last possible second by digging your foot in solid at the line and then, bending your elbow to keep you hand behind and under the ball, you pull your arm through the swing and let it go. You see, all those moves, you can hurt yourself, so watch how you develop this technique so you don't end up with bowler's elbow.
Now, we come to the helicopter. To get this technique down effectively, you want to be using a ball weighing between ten and twelve pounds. Whereas with the other two hook balls, you want this one with your fingers along the top of the ball, rather than behind and to either side. This ball will resemble the straight ball as it drives down the line, but it spins like helicopter blades as it goes on its way. If you aren't too careful, bowling a hook with this technique could turn out to be your favorite.
There are the three most common techniques of bowling a hook. Practice them, and you will see a masterful improvement to your game.
About the Author
I have always been fortunate enough to bowl two perfect games as well maintain an average of over 210. I really do owe it all learning to bowl a hook ball. I am so grateful that I found the site, BowlaHook.com. Believe it or not, I was close to giving up bowling all together. I just did not think that I was capable of being a great bowler. I sure am glad I did and hope that you too do not give up. I am living proof that it works!
how to you screw hooks into a plastic picture frame correctly?
they are the hooks that you can attach wire too by the way.
i tried doing it but when i looped the wire though and went to hang it up, the hooks, starting bending inwards.
how do i stop that?
If the hooks are bending, get better hardware. Go to the hardware store and tell someone what you're trying to do and ask them what you need to accomplish it.
Often, there's more than one way to do something like this. For instance, you could use a wire hanger, or a glue, or mount it on a small shelf, etc, etc, etc...
