A Selection of Trout Fishing Bait

This is about the selection of effective bait, including the live bait, original things that is imitated as a lure as well as other baits that a trout could not resist. Some of these baits can be obtained in local bait and tackle stores, while others are home-made which you can customized to your fishing need. Here are several types of excellent trout baits that you can choose from.

Worms. The most common baits are the worms. Starting with the small red wiggler, also known as composting worms. Three or four dozens of these small worms will fit in one container. Then comes the bigger night crawlers, a from of the earthworm, which are usually sold by dozen. Since night crawlers are quite long, you may need to chop them then use the smaller portion to cover the hook.

An effective technique when using live worms is to attach the worm on a hook with its tip of the worm kept unattached to the hook so it can move freely. Then cast upstream and let the bait go to them bottom of the river. The water stream will move the bait with the waving free edge of the worm. A fatal attraction for the trout which made it hooked.

Flies. Three major groups of flies which are the trout's favorite are mayflies, caddisflies and stoneflies. All stages of those flies' life cycle, namely nymphs, pupae, larvae, duns and the adult form are the main food of trout. Each and every life stage has its own characteristics that you should take into consideration when using one. Any unnatural usage and application will increase the awareness of danger sensed by the trout.

Flies are subject for imitation to create the lures. Practicality and the sophistication of various lures is one reason that trout fishing with lures become enjoyable and fun. The angler has the freedom to experiment with a set of attractive lures that is easy to obtain in fishing tackle stores

Egg sacks. Eggs of the fellow trout fish species, the salmon, are perfect baits. In fact, any fish eggs will do. Larger and mature fish eggs can be used as singles, while smaller eggs are usually grouped in a sack of 10 – 15 eggs. The best time to use these eggs is during the spawn season. Using egg sacks as bait should resemble the natural way of spawning, where the trout females burst out thousands of eggs to the surface. Timing consideration is one success key when using egg sacs as bait

Home-made bait. Preparing home-made baits could be an advantage, since you can customize your bait formulation as required by various fishing situation and condition. The ingredients, color and smell you want to include is fully at your discretion. It is proven that trout like cheese, garlic and anise oil.

Many home-made bait recipes can be obtained from the internet. Prior to cooking, it is best to form the bait mixture into small balls resembling the size of a salmon egg, which around ½ inches in diameter. Drop the egg balls in boiling water one by one for about 2 minutes each, then remove them from the water and let it dry on a piece of paper towel.

Sweet corn. I do not really know how in the first place trout get to know and like corn, but sweet corn, even the artificial corn is such effective for trout fishing. A trout seems to be attracted to its smell, shape and shiny yellowish color.

But you should be aware that due to its effectiveness in attracting trout, sweet corn bait is prohibited in some lakes and rivers. Carefully acknowledge and comply with the restriction if there is any. If there is no restriction, just feel free to use it.

Power bait. This is actually a brand name of commercial bait products especially the soft plastic fishing lures that are produced by Berkley. Due to its popularity, Berkley's power bait becomes a reference for most of the fishing lures available in the market place.

At present, Berkley is one of the world's largest producers of fishing tackle and equipment. Other brands than Power Bait are Gulp!, Trilene, 7 Strand, and Johnson.

Minnows. I should also mention the minnow which refers to every small fish found in fresh and saltwater. These minnows are likely from the carb family. Its glittering effect and constant tail movement is imitated by lures and works effectively.

Fishing Line Recommendation for Lilly pads/weeds.?

I have an UglyStick rod and Shakespeare spinning reel. I am new to Bass fishing but I have had some good luck so far. The problem I am having is that I am constantly casting around lillies and grass/weeds in the lake I fish at because that is where I usually catch the Bass.
I would like to know what type of fishing line would allow me to both get my lightweight lures far and also be tough enough that I would be able to rip it out of the lilly pads if it gets caught. I have already lost a few lures so I am thinking my line/setup might not be appropriate.

Go with a braided line: Firewire, Spiderwire, etc...

But go with the lightest line you can. I always fish 8-10 lb test monofilament, so whatever the equivalent in a braid would be. People tend to buy line that is way to heavy for their circumstances. Since you're asking this question I'm pretty sure you're not a pro so you won't be catching any 15 pounders any time soon and even if you did it's 100% feasible to bring in a fish this size on 8 to 10 lb test.

The other problem is that you're probably casting non-weedless lures into the weeds. You're just asking to lose your bait. Try going weedless: plastic worms, weedless jigs, and you won't be running to the tackle shop everyday.

You are throwing lightweight tackle. AVOID HEAVY LINES. You do not NEED BIG GAME LINE.
