New Book From Brian D'Ambrosio: Montana Summer: 101 Great Adventures in Big Sky Country
In the new book Montana Summer: 101 Great Adventures in Big Sky Country, Montana writer Brian D'Ambrosio takes readers to 101 uniquely Montanan places. Summer in Montana, however, can be mercurial and ephemeral: snow can fall in July; mountain peaks often host perpetual snowfields. Summer in Montana is a delightful time to visit. Whether you are searching for a hiking adventure or a scenic drive, or a great brewery or phenomenal burger, or a beautiful ball park or quirky bit of lore, the 101 places listed in this book provide many opportunities for immersive Montana tourism.
Whether visiting the north, south, east or west regions of the state, there is sure to be plenty to explore. Certainly, 1,001 places could have been included, but even the heartiest of travelers would be hyperstimulated or overworked attempting to fulfill such a prospect. So, relax, make a check list, and enjoy the 101 things you must do this summer in Montana. Summer in Montana is practical, hearty, awe-inspiring, mesmerizing, and the quintessence of freedom; feasible to attempt yet impossible to conquer; fleeting but most memorable; infinitely enjoyable. Welcome to a Montana summer.
From breweries to ballparks to theatres, Montana Summer: 101 Great Adventures in Big Sky Country is loaded with great ideas. The book is crammed with trivia, facts, stats, maps and great photos. My favorite section is the Montana excursion section. This section includes the Beartooth Highway. Designated a National Scenic Byway, the Beartooth Highway has been described by former CBS correspondent Charles Kuralt as 'the most beautiful drive in America'. Reaching heights of nearly 11,000 feet, this 53.7-mile, 3 hour drive offers skytop views of snowcapped peaks, glaciers, alpine lakes and plateaus
The book is loaded with scenic drives, including the National Bison Range. This 5,037-acre refuge located about five miles south of Ronan on U.S. 93 offers relatively easy birding year-round. Parts of the refuge are closed during nesting season, and during hunting season access is limited to the secondary county roads and paved highways that surround the refuge.
There is also a section of signature Montana summer events and great food and drink ideas. Certainly, 1,001 places could have been included, but even the heartiest of travelers would be hyperstimulated or overworked attempting to fulfill such a prospect. So, relax, make a check list, and enjoy the 101 things you must do this summer in Montana.
About the Author
Kristin Shaw lives in the Bitterroot Valley.
Should the Nebraska Cornhuskers move to the Big sky or Big South instead of the Big 10?
It seems they cannot even beat a low team from the Pac-10. How embarrassing.
No, they can make a stop at Conference USA on their way to the football championship subdivision.
