Janome AQS 2009 Sewing Machine
What happens when you cross Janome with the American Quilter's Society? You get the Janome AQS 2009 - a sewing machine with great quilting functionality.
Popular at AQS shows when it was released last year, you can now find a few of these machines online and can enjoy the combination of the added quilting accessories with Janome's precision stitching.
This is a highly portable machine. It's light-weight and, while not a mini sewing machine exactly, its smaller dimensions make it easy to take on the road with you for vacation, classes, or trade shows.
Janome AQS 2009 Stitch Patterns
The machine comes with 20 built-in sewing stitches including two styles of one step buttonholes. The list of stitches include a blend of utility stitches with stitches that are perfect for quilting like straight, zigzag, stretch stitches, blind hem, and overedge stitches, blanket, and smocking.
Stitch width and length are adjustable for select stitches. Stitch selection and settings are completed using arrow keys under the LCD control panel.
Janome AQS 2009 Presser Feet
There are a total of three presser feet included with the purchase of this sewing machine. Presser feet are the snap-on style and easier to change than the old screw-in style. The presser foot lever has three height settings.

Janome AQS 2009 Features
While the Janome AQS 2009 comes with a foot pedal, it can be operated using the Start/Stop button instead. This adds to the portability of the machine as all that's needed to get sewing is an outlet - no need to bring your foot pedal along everywhere.
A number of simple button controls are conveniently located above the needle arm:

Max speed on the Janome AQS 2009 is 650 stitches per minute, or about 25% slower than most home sewing machines. For quilting and detailed work, a slower speed can be an advantage and the speed control slider can further limit sewing speed.

What could be wrong with my sewing machine?
I was sewing last night and the bottom thread kept bunching and looking sloppy. At one point it made this weird noise so I stopped and when I went to start again the top thread wouldn't pick up the bobbin thread.
I have rethreaded the machine, rewound the bobbin (thinking there wasn't enough on it), I redid the needle, and dusted all the parts and even removed the bobbin holder thing and dusted that.
The bobbin does not move in the bobbin holder (I don't remember if its supposed to...you know you don't really notice things until something is wrong).
What could be wrong with my machine?
My machine (Singer Inspiration 4205) is new only from Christmas 08 to now.
Good rule of sewing: new needle for every garment. It's amazing how many strange symptoms a worn needle can produce. Though I think it more likely you've got a top thread tension issue, probably due to misthreading (threading with the presser foot down or trying to sew with the presser foot up).
Unthread the machine one more time, and put in a brand new needle. Make sure the needle is turned the correct way around.
Clean (vacuum and brush, not compressed air) and oil the machine per the manual. Don't oil anything that doesn't need it.
Raise the presser foot (which opens the upper tension disks and allows the thread to enter), and rethread, step by step, following the diagram in the manual.
Set the top tension to "4", which is normal tension for most fabrics, most stitches.
Fetch up the bobbin thread and hold it and the top thread together behind the presser foot when starting to sew.
Sew a test seam -- did that mostly cure it? If so, keep working with the upper tension setting to get a good seam.
The fact that the bobbin didn't move when you're getting loops on the bottom of the fabric doesn't bother me -- if there's no top tension, the bobbin thread won't be pulled out and cause the bobbin to turn.

In general, unless you're doing something really strange like running ribbon on the bobbin for a decorative effect, the bobbin tension gets set only when the machine is in for a COA (cleaning/oil/adjustment). Setting the bobbin tension is a little fiddly. Most of us who do bobbin work keep an extra bobbin case around... one for regular sewing, set for normal tension, and the case that we change tensions on for various effects.
