Tricks to Catch the White Tail Deer
It sounds good when you talk about hunting but it takes a great deal when you are actually hunting some animal. Everybody cannot go out in the open for hunting. When see the animal just at a yards' distance, you want to quit at that very moment. It needs practice, skill and dedication on the part of the hunter.
Each work demands some practice. Everything goes wrong if you simply jump into the work before getting the hang of the work. You should inquire the pros and cons very well before you are trying your hands at that work. This way, you know the advantages and disadvantages involved in the work.
Hunting a white tail deer is some tedious task. It requires all your hunting skills focused in your mind. When the animal you are hunting is smart, you have to be smarter in any case. In the case of white tail hunts, they can hear you, smell you, and are always alert if there is any trace of human beings surrounding them. They are on the lookout for you as much as you are.
Animals can be smart, they cannot be smartest. Human beings can apply tricks while they are hunting white tail animals. Deer knows the kind of smell you possess; therefore you have to hide that particular smell. You can do it by scent masking spray. If you are careless enough not to put it, you can cost your life to it. Deer, after hearing the sound, will assume that a couple of bucks are sparring. This way, you can mask your presence and get close to the deer. How do I clean and prepare buck fur/tails which will be used for fly fishing?
I have hunting friends who are starting to give me deer fur and buck tails. I was online and many of the websites recommend harsh chemicals for cleaning and drying buck tails.
I can't afford to pay someone else to clean them for me, so I'm here.
What is the best at home method for preparing fur and buck tails that will be used to make flies?
How do I kill ticks and their eggs without potentially hurting fish later on?

If you have mammal hide with fur on it that you want to use for fly tying, you needn't necessarily chemically treat or tan it. This material does not need to last a lifetime, nor does the hide need to be rich and supple and attractive. If you are an active fly tier, you're just going to use up the fur, anyway.
Have your hunting friends remove all fat and flesh and blood from the hide and then wash the fur gently but thoroughly with ordinary shampoo. This will remove any remaining dirt, blood, and bugs that may be in the fur. Then, let it dry it completely. As long as the fat and underskin are off the hide, it should dry out just fine with little or no odor, bacteria, etc. It's best to do this outdoors, but if it's freezing cold where you are (like it is here), you may want to do this in your basement. Don't worry about ticks or lice -- they'll probably be gone by the time you get the material. If they're not, they will be after the shampooing. Remember, the animal is dead -- there's no reason for fleas or lice to hang around anymore. There are no pests or eggs that I know of that can potentially harm fish, so, that's a non-issue.
Washing and drying these materials will give you perfectly usable fly tying material. There are some caveats. First, this kind of material will not last as long as commercially prepared skins and fur. Tanned hides are treated with preservatives to make it last longer. So, your home-treated fur may get brittle and dull-looking within a year or so, so go ahead and use it up.
Second, home-prepared animal materials are not treated with naphthalene (mothballs), so they are susceptible to pests like moths and carpet beetles, which eat the fur and hide. Keep all materials in airtight ziploc bags t to prevent pest damage. Keeping your home-treated materials alongside your commercial products will also help -- most fly tying boxes are so saturated with naphthalene vapors that no living creatures beside fly anglers will even get near them.
Finally, home-treated materials may be more difficult to use in certain circumstances than storebought stuff. For example, you can't make Zonker strips out of untanned fur. Sometimes the stiff, home-dry deer and elk hair is harder to work with because the underlying hide is not supple. But this is free material, so, it's not worth complaining about.
In general, it sounds like you're probably making a little more of this than you need to. You're lucky to have a supply of materials from your hunter buddies. Ask them for their bird feathers, too!
