Wondering if I should put 20 lb fluorocarbon or 20 lb braid on a STX. Is there any casting difference? I've heard that casting braid might dig into the spool? Do most people put a whole spool of braid/fluorocarbon on, or do they use it as a leader?

Unlike most others, my vote goes to braid lines. My reasons are as follows:

1) Braid lines don't stretch. As a result, it will be much more sensitive than mono lines. I could feel my lure on the entire retrieve. (I've caught sharks over 5 feet long with my bass gear while surf fishing for halibut.)

5) Braid lines cost more initially but they are actually more economical on the long run. Mono or fluorocarbon lines will oxidize and weaken over time. Braid lines will last much longer.
