wouldn't it be great if you could teach your crappie fishing minnow to catch more fish for you? Well we have figured out some methods that have worked for us over the years and I think you will be amazed at the results! If one of the these techniques fail, try another until you start catching crappie.
6 minnow hooking tips that can increase your crappie fishing catch
#1 The "Upper & Lower Jaw crappie minnow hooking method"
Place your hook at the lower jaw of the minnow and push up through the upper jaw, make sure the barb clears the upper jaw.~Run the hook through the upper and lower jaw of the minnow. This will stop to much water flow through the gills (drowning) that will have him " floating with the fishes". This method is great for trolling, it keeps you minnow alive much longer.
#2 The "Front Dorsal Fin crappie minnow hooking trick"
Place your hook right in front of the dorsal fin at his shoulder point. GO easy if you hit the bone you will kill the minnow. Rule of thumb slide the hook about a 1/4" of and inch each push,then see if the crappie fishing minnow is still squirming around, if not start over with a fresh minnow.
#3 The "rear Dorsal Fin crappie minnow hooking method"
Hook the minnow in the back, behind the dorsal fin, and he will swim away and up (heading for "the light".) This trip is great when you fish deep, for suspended crappie. The minnow will swim up though the school and drive them crazy! If you can find the crappie schools you will catch crappie with this method.
#4 The The "rear Anal Fin crappie minnow hooking trick"
Place your hook right behind the Anal fin about a 1/2" away about 1/4" into the flesh. This hooking position will make him swim down and away. Do not use any weights with this method. Place your crappie fishing minnow right on the surface and let him swim down into the crappie school.
#5 The "left - right gill crappie minnow hooking trick"
Run you hook through the gill outer cover only, about 1/8" from the edge.This will cause your crappie fishing minnow to swim "left". Do the same on the right side and your crappie fishing minnow will go swim "right". Great for steering minnows into crappie waiting to ambush from a hiding place.
#6 The "right behind the gills crappie minnow hooking trick"
Place your hook right behind the gills in the tough flesh area. This will make your Minnow swim in circles! This method works great in a school of crappie, you will be amazed how this gets the crappie stirred up and ready to bite.

How do I fish and what do I fish with in a 5-8 feet deep canal?
What do I fish with in the Harvey Canal (Louisiana) which is a long long canal a few miles long that's a few feet deep like around 6 feet deep and like 20-30 wide. I tried fishing with a yellowish short fat minnow looking thing but didn't catch anything with that. I did both float fishing and reel in fishing. First I did it without a cork and reeled it in slowly but didn't catch anything with that. Then I put a float on it like 3 feet away from the bait and didn't catch anything with that. Then I kept the float on and slowly reeled it in, that didn't work either. Its fresh water by the way. I don't have any bait shops near me. I may be able to get worms from the ground like dig them up. I have bread and stuff like that. What should I fish with and how should I fish? Cork or no cork? Fast reel in or slow reel in? Thanks. Its a sunny day kind of cloudy.
You should try this. First catch a few sunfish, then cut them up, and fish them on the bottom. Tons of catfish there, and if your insistant on using minnows then go with smaller shiners on about a #6 or #8 hook fishing about 2 feet deep.
Oh yeah before I forget, Go Crimson Tide! LOL, I'm sure you know what I mean.
