Understanding Rotary Tools

A rotary tools is basically an 'all in one' accessory for performing numerous tasks. It's the personification of multitasking due to the fact that its rotary tip can pair up with a number of attachments to serve a multitude of purposes. So, be it a professional job related to hardware and construction, or just a home use requirement, this tool comes in all kinds of situations. Some of its most common uses are as follows:

• Engraving and etching • Cutting heads off stripped screws / plumbing pipe / wood • Metal polishing • Removing grout However, don't think that this is all rotary tools can do, for there is a world of other possibilities waiting for you apart from the above-mentioned. And this is why you need to be extra careful while selecting this tool.

There are basically two types of rotary tools – the Basic, and the Cut-out. The differentiating factor between these two is that the Cut-out version has a bigger motor compared to the basic one. Going further into details, while you are buying a Cut-out tool, there are two sub-varieties, i.e., cordless as well as corded. Here too, you need to purchase according to your requirement. While a cordless Cut-out tool would certainly provide you with more flexibility and ease of use, the corded one delivers more power, since it's always attached to the source of electricity.

Rotary tools are one of the most frequently used tools due to their numerous attachments that give users the option of combining them with other pieces of equipment for varied functions. Talking about the Cut-out version, it can be used with grinders (circular and otherwise), polishers, sanders and guided bits, while the basic version can be used with a router attachment, flexible shaft, different types of bits, chainsaw sharpener and drill press. Depending on your need and budget, you can select any of the above and make your job a whole lot easier.
