Sophisticated Styles For Bridesmaids
Who says that bridesmaids have to look like a row of pink cupcakes? If your attendants are more mature or simply more chic, they may not be too happy wearing a pink organza dress for your wedding. Luckily, there are some fabulous sophisticated styles for bridesmaids available that even the most fashionable woman will be happy to wear.
Many of the bridesmaid dresses on the market, while beautiful, would be hard to picture on a slightly older group of attendants. As more and more women wait until their 30s to tie the knot, this means that many of their bridesmaids will also be older than the 20-somethings for whom most bridesmaid fashions are designed. Fortunately, there are some designers out there who have stepped up to fill the gap, whether they specialize in bridesmaid attire or simply special occasion dresses.
Color plays a big role in making a bridesmaid dress appear to be sophisticated. Pastel colors, while pretty and popular, are not generally very sophisticated. Richer tones such as espresso or even black will be much more chic. On the right group of attendants, bold colors like bright orange or chartreuse can also be very hip, especially in the right cut.
Look for styles that are as modern as what your friends would choose for a cocktail party. A hot trend right now is the one shoulder dress. This can be created in a flowing fabric like chiffon for a Grecian goddess effect (perfect for a summer wedding) or in a more structured fabric such as satin for pure old Hollywood glamor. Either way, is is definitely chic and on trend, and your bridesmaids will feel smashing wearing it.
Another great idea is to allow each bridesmaid to dress as an individual. In many ways, this is the height of sophistication. After all, your friends are not clones, why should they dress like they are for your wedding? Allowing each of your bridesmaids to express her own unique style is sure to make each one feel her most beautiful. To have a sense of visual harmony in your bridal party, choose a color family (it does not need to be an exact shade), and ask each woman to select her favorite dress in that tone.
The right finishing touches can also make your bridal party appear more (or less) sophisticated. Dyed to match shoes are definitely not hip or modern. A much better idea is for each bridesmaid to choose a pair of shoes that looks great with her dress, especially if each attendant has chosen her own gown. When in doubt, strappy sandals in a metallic color always look fabulous and stylish.
Hair and makeup are also important. Modern bridesmaid hair is loose and tousled, never overly "done" looking. Insisting that each 'maid wear the same hairdo is definitely out of style. Remember, that your bridesmaids are individuals, not a group of chorus girls! Trust them to turn up looking pretty with minimal instruction. If you want to have some fun with makeup, you could schedule a makeup artist to come on the morning of your wedding and make everyone look glamorous.
The finishing touch is the perfect sets of bridesmaid jewelry. Pieces like long "stiletto" earrings look hip and modern, especially when they are handcrafted using cool elements like cube shaped Swarovski crystals.
