do i need tippet for fly fishing need some help?
i got a fly rod at academy for 108 yes i know cheap but am a begginer and i need to tie leader to my flie line them do i need tippet on my leader just give me some info
for one that is not cheap that is average for a beginner fly rod, i bout a 9' 8#wt scientific angler at walmart on clearance (regular $80) i got mine for $11.00. you can buy tippet leaders at any store that carries fly gear they are any where from $2-$5 or i would buy a book on common fishing knots and make sure it has some fly line knots and line connection knots these helped me out alot when i first started fly fishing and also look into fly fishing magazines or books , these have a lot of helpful info as how to build your own leaders and how to select the right flies for the type of fish you are tageting or even casting suggestions, for salmon, steelhead or bass i just buy a leader spool of 15# mono and use that for my whole leader(much cheaper and easier to modify the length, and for trout i use 8# mono because i tend to break my tippet or a ^3 mono leader while i am casting, hope this helps you
