Times Square - Top Travel Landmark In The World
When I found that Times Square is most famous travel destination (landmark) in the World with more then 35 mil. of visitors I was shocked. First question that rise at thet moment is why and what people can see there.
Theoretically, Times Square is a major crossing in Manhattan, a borough of New royalty City, at the junction of street and Seventh Avenue and stretching from West 42nd to West 47th Streets. The Times Square area consists of the blocks between Sixth and Eighth Avenues from east to west, and West 40th and West 53rd Streets from south to north, making up the western conception of the advertisement area of Midtown Manhattan.
Historicaly Times Square was named Longacre Square. Original name was changed in April 1904. Times Square, sometimes famous as the "Crossroads of the World" has achieved the position of an iconic concern landmark and has become a symbolization of New York City.
Now days Times Square is famous beacause of annual New Year's Eve ball drop, an event co-produced by the Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment.
Times Square now days boasts attractions much as ABC's Times Square Studios, where Good Morning America is broadcast live, an elaborate Toys "Я" Us store, and competing Hershey's and M&M's stores across the street from each other, as well as restaurants much as Ruby Foo's (Chinese food), the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company (seafood), Planet Hollywood Restaurant and Bar (theme restaurant) and Carmine's (Italian) along with a sort of multiple movie theaters. It has also attracted a sort of large financial, publishing, and media firms to set up headquarters in the area. This area is also well known from movies and video spots.
So, is it worth first place as travel landmark number one. Yes if you like urban experience but if you are cultural or history fan you will be very disappointed. They will say it's just banch of bilboards and lights.
