How do they fix enamel eaten away at gum line?
Thick ropy tartar, and reflux contributed to the enanel being eaten away. Used Plax mouthwash and a sonic toothbrush to clean up teeth. Now cleaner, but gum line pulled back shows actual enamel loss and cavaties at gum line. What kind of dentist do I look for, and what can be done?

I feel for you. I'm in the same boat. It's ugly, isn't it? I don't even smile anymore. Do you drink a lot of soda by any chance? Mine was caused by drinking MT.Dew like all the time. No, you don't need dental implants. First of all, they are super expensive and super painful. You'd probably get dentures before implants which are well into the tens of thousands (like a nice car). RELAX THOUGH! You probably don't need dentures. Your first step is to find a good dentist. Ask friends, co-workers, and family. And isn't there like a number that you can call for dentists in your area that are certified and recommended? I can't remember it, it's like all over the U.S. though. What I'd recommend is to take care of the fillings at first and if you can, get crowns (much more durable and you won't have to replace them like fillings). Crowns are costly but most dentists are willing to take payments. After this, try a teeth whitening procedure like ZOOM! at the dentist but only if he/she thinks it'll help! If that doesn't work, your final option is LUMINEER VENEERS. They go right over your teeth and are much more real looking than the older ones. However, once again, they are SUPER expensive like an average of $750 a tooth!!! I don't care though. I'm just going to make payments and I'm only having 8 teeth done that show when I smile (I don't have a really white smile). IT'S PROBABLY THE ONLY WAY TO GET RID OF THE DARK, GUNKY STUFF ALONG THE LINES OF YOUR GUMS IF IT DOESN'T COME OFF WITH A GOOD DENTAL HYGENIST CLEANING! Also, do you smoke? I do. If all you need are fillings, it's stupid. Like I said though, your first step is to get yourself to a good dentist (I've learned the office says a lot!). My dentist has a very big practice (he has 3 other dentists working with him) and his building is brand new and all very beautiful looking with lots of plants, sky windows, white walls, beautiful paintings, bird feeders at every window, you get the idea... He's probably not the cheapest of dentists but he has a wonderful reputation. I wish you the best of luck. If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? I'm 35. Until I was 19, I never had a cavity and went to the dentist twice a year. It wasn't until I started eating a lot of junk food (esp. sweets), drinking gallons of Mt.Dew, and smoking that my beautiful teeth went downhill. I have like 30 cavities (all filled and very costly and I'm not rich) and I brushed and flossed atleast 3X a day but it was my diet and smoking that caused my problems (and maybe genetics).
