What Is A Wet Tile Saw And Why Do You Need One When You Renovate

Learning about home renovation might seem overwhelming at first. There are so many tools and special pieces of equipment. Some are necessary to do the job properly. Others may be the only way to finish a job successfully. Knowing what is a wet tile saw and how you can use it in your renovation projects is an important thing to keep in mind. Working with tiles is actually very easy and the right tools can make it even easier to finish a job.

Tiles look beautiful when they are installed properly. Whether it is a bathroom wall, kitchen back splash or a tiled shower surround, knowing how to install tiles can take your home renovation project to the next level. In any area, however, there will be an area where you will need to fit tiles around other permanent objects. It may be bathroom pipes or fixtures. You may need to work around an electrical outlet in a back splash or a light switch in the wall of kitchen or bathroom. Because it can be tricky to cut tiles to fit, several specialized tools have been invented to make it possible to cut tiles so that they will fit.

The problem with tiles is that they are hard but brittle. They tend to shatter if you try and cut them without using special tile cutting tools. If you are cutting a small area off of a tile along a straight line, you may be able to use a tile nipper that snips off small bits of tile each time you use it. Great for corners but not so good for cutting larger areas or cutting along curved lines.

You may find that as convenient as it is to cut tiles using just a nipper, it will not get you far. It is much easier to cut tiles on site, so taking them to a tile place to have them cut can simply waste time and money. If the tiles are not cut properly, it can also waste tiles. If you need cuts that are long or curved you will need to use a wet tile saw.

There is nothing better than a wet tile saw to cut ceramic tiles. They use abrasive blades to grind away tiles so that they can be cut without shattering. When using a wet tile saw you put steady pressure on the tile to move it along the blade. It may take some time for the saw to grind its way through the tile, and this is one way that cutting tile is very different than cutting any other material.

You may have noticed if you are using a saw to cut wood or metal that heat will build up over time. Because you are using friction to cut tiles a lot of heat can build up. Wet tile saws use a stream of water that travels over the blade and cools it off while it is grinding through the tiles. You cannot use a regular saw to cut tiles since they will heat up too rapidly and stop working altogether. That is, if they do not shatter the tile in the process.

There are so many places to find tile saws that there is no reason to try and work without one. If you are someone who thinks they can use other tools and make it work, you will find this is not the case with tiles. You can find them in home improvement and building supply stores, or you can rent them from an equipment rental service.

If you want to make sure that you can finish your tile job and make it look professional, you need a wet tile saw. They allow you to make custom cuts safely and efficiently. Not needing to pay for extra tiles to replace broken ones will actually save you money. A wet tile saw is a necessary tool for anyone wanting to finish a tiling job.
