Should I take a low-paying job in an industry I want to work in or keep my high paying job?
A theatre festival offered me a job doing membership drives. The pay isn't very good (minimum $1100/month), the hours are all over the place, and it's in a town 30 minutes away from where I live. The thing is I want to work there desperately. I particularly want to do theatrical millinery and I think it would be best to try an get a foothold there first. On the other, I could work for my Dad if I wanted to do landscaping this summer and make on average $2000/month working 40-60 hours a week, and live at home. I definitely don't want to work for my Dad for the rest of my life, but I'll be able to save a lot of money this way. What should I do?
Go with the theatre festival. Sometimes you got to sacrifice to get what you want. You can work for your dad if it doesn't work out, but doing what you love or working towards doing what you love is most important. At least this will get your foot in the door and when the employer sees that your interested and you work hard, you have a good chance of working for them in the future doing something else. Maybe you could even do both jobs. Make the theatre festival your first priority though and help your dad out when you can.
