The Fall of Silk Stockings is Down to the Rise of Nylon
The American GIs famously brought silk stockings as gifts for British women in the Second World War, but now, as then, it's very hard to come by real silk stockings. Not because of conflict and supply routes, but simply because we have better materials now.
Patra Selections, an international retailer of silk clothing and bedding, explain why they don't stock them:
"Silk stockings are high end, luxury items. These days we're used to ladder-resistant tights and stockings, made with Lycra, and come in a wide variety of colours. They're disposable items, and at around £30 a pair, they are hardly disposable. The rise of Nylon meant the end of the silk stocking."
It is possible to still buy real silk stockings from companies such as Falke, but they're certainly not widely available, and there are problems when it comes to washing and wearing. UKtights.com warn that, "fit is something you need to take great care with, there is little or no stretch with 100% silk. Look carefully at the sizing."
Tights and stockings made from silk should also be hand-washed in non-biological detergent and laid flat to dry. Certainly not as easy as throwing them in the washing machine at the end of the day.
"Silk is still regarded as a luxury item, even though silk, satin and cashmere have become affordable and widely available", says Rita Patra, Managing Director of Patra Selections. "I would suggest silk pyjamas as a better silk gift for ladies - they have the same timeless elegance as silk stockings, but are much more practical and last far longer!"

How can I take mildew stains off of light colored nylon? ?
My dog stroller was stored out in the shed, and got mildew stains on the nylon. It looks terrible, and I have tried alcohol, but it did nothing. The nylon is stretched tight, so I can spray stuff on it, but it did stain.
Any advice?
how about a laundry product or a weak bleach solution.? or a carpet cleaner soap
