Left 4 Dead Why is my Lag at 1 Red bar while my friends have 4 green bars ?
As you can recall im using a netgear i've been doing research that a 54.0 mbps thats a speed of a G speed why do my friends have green bars i forget how much bars but when i look at my gamertag ping i have 1 Red Bar help please and hope you guys don't say buy a N speed router because i can't afford one at this point thank you
Lag is the amount of time it takes a packet to get from you to the server and back. Evidently they have better paths to the server than you do. (There's nothing you can do about the path you get - the internet routers determine that on a moment by moment basis.) Maybe their provider uses a backbone that's closer to the server.
Since the internet seldom runs over 1mbps for any but local connections, even a B router is fast enough for a single computer running a single connection (or even playing a game and downloading a few files at the same time). We use G at the office for about 30 laptops, and they all get the same speeds as I do on the 120mbps fiber pipe, except to our office around the corner (I can get almost 100mbps transfers from that, but that's just 2 fiber cables and a router, almost like the same LAN. Real internet won't be that fast in my lifetime.)
