Appreciating Trout Fishing Scotland Is Famous For
Know Your Trout Fishing Lures
Trout fishing would never be complete without trout fishing lures. Your fishing trip will be a success if you were able to bring the right lures and use them correctly. There are various kinds of such lures and they are in different kinds, colors, weight, shapes, and sizes.
Since there are many lures to choose from when you want to catch a trout, it is so easy to get befuddled with the array of choices before you. The question whether which of the available lures are appropriate to bring to a fishing trip is something that is not that easy to answer for certain.
Some important considerations here are knowing the area of the fishing expedition, knowing the kind of trout available and the type of bait that would attract them, and your planned fishing activity. Also worth the consideration are factors like water clarity, sunlight, and water temperature. These are very important because if you fish on a sunny day, for example, you should know that the reflection of shiny lures would repel a trout so you better avoid such lures.
In choosing a lure, make sure that it is closely similar to the usual prey of the trout. The similarity must also be in its size and weight and not only in shape and color. It would also be good to use live baits like water worms, minnows, and nightcrawlers. You can also try mallows and sweet corn kernels as baits and see if you can catch a trout with these. You can use these as subsurface streamers or you can cast them for dead drift.
When talking about trout fishing lures, some of the most common ones that come to mind are jigs, spoons, and spinners. Jigs are very handy but they can easily get entangled with aquatic plants or rocks underwater. Spinners are those that many trout fishers use to catch rainbow and steelhead trout because this kind of lure resembles the movement of the trout's common prey. Spoons, on the other hand, mimic the movement patterns of a small bait fish and they are oftentimes successful in attracting trout.
Another lure commonly used in trout fishing is the rooster tail. Its movement is similar to a minnow's, a typical trout food, and this is also good to use because it appeals to a trout. Also resembling a minnow, and a fingerling trout at the same time, is the mini stickbait.
There are lures that should be used in certain seasons. For example, in spring when trout are still slow-moving and are still deep under water, it is advisable to use lures of suitable weight. These lures must not be too light for them to be able to reach the place where the trout are, yet they must also be not too heavy to drag at the bottom. For bodies of water where there is a lot of runoff, it is best to use worm rigs with a spinner.
To hook a rainbow trout in springtime, try using spinners. When fishing in the lake for rainbow trout, using streamlined spoon lures can give you a nice-sized trout. The maximum weight of this kind of lure to be used under the said circumstance must be ¼ oz. You can also try using weighted minnow plugs in a spinning rod when trout fishing in lakes, deep pools, estuaries, and rivers.
There are right kinds of lures to use in specific situations. So to make sure that you have the right lure at the right place and time, do your research and bring a number of trout fishing lures that you can choose from when trout fishing.

Any Erie steelhead fishing tips for this time of year?
Heading up this upcoming weekend to some streams in Erie, pretty much right by the lake.
I'm somewhat new at all this and I was wondering if anybody has any tips when it comes to the type of bait that could work well this time of year.
- I'm not fly fishing.
Any type/color of little jigs work? I've mainly used salmon eggs or wax worms the few times I've gone.
Small is key right now. The stream levels are really low and clear right now so downsize and downsize again if needed.. If you can use single eggs, so much the better. Single or double maggots should work with a tiny jig. Mini Foo jigs by Weldon Tackle works well. Try the motor oil color and white as well. One more thing to remember..shiny split shot spooks steelies in clear water so get some that are dull colored.
Concentrate on the deeper pools and look for fish that are rolling.
Good Luck and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone on Y/A Fishing.
