Fishing Trout Streams
Can you remember the good-ole days of trout fishing streams that were just loaded with beautiful trout. I can remember one outing in late fall where I was fishing the Pentwater River on the west side of Michigan and hooking a nice big Brown Trout. I found this fish so beautiful as it was a native brown trout born and raised in the river. This fish was not a planted fish. With it's bright orange spots and all the other beautiful colors that native browns have I just couldn't bring myself to keeping him. So as I got the fish close to me I reached down with my needle nose pliers and very carefully removed the hook. Something else I forgot to mention is I always bend the barb down on all my flies so I can release them easily.
I remember years ago they used to plant rainbows in different streams. I was fishing the Au Sable river just below a dam that I called Bamfield Dam, North West of Glennie Michigan. This river is pretty big in this area but during this hot no rain summer they would close the gates on the dam and let just a little water flow through. As the water receded it would leave pools along this area. I realized that a fly hatch was taking place because every place I looked I could see these rainbows rising for the flies. Where ever I would cast I would hook a small rainbow trout and then I would release it. I hooked so many that after a while my arm got tired and I let my back cast come down and touch the water behind me . A couple of times when this happened there were so many fish that they would grab the fly behind me. I had just started to fish then and to me it seemed like fun.
My son Denny and I was doing some spring trout fishing on the Au Gres River just north of M55 opening day of trout season one year. When my son and I got into the river to fish I notice a fishermen about 200 yards upstream fishing for steelhead. This fishermen had been their most of the morning and had caught nothing at all. As my son Denny entered the stream the gentlemen told to go a head and give it a try. This was a nice run, fairly deep and with a few obstacles in it. I had showed Denny t5hat when it comes to deep holes you must get down to the bottom fo those holes or will not be successful in catching the steelhead that hang out in deep runs. You Might lose a few lures but that is the only way you will catch fish. At the time we were using Mepp's Spinners and we had just changed from a silver blade with no buck tail to a black blade with a black tail because Denny had lost his only plain silver mepp's spinner . On his first cast he tied into a nice steel head. When Denny finally landed this fish he walked back out into the stream and made another cast in the same place he caught the fish and "Wham" another steelhead exploded to the air and the fight was on. I looked around at the guy that was fishing this hole and he gently folded up his rod and walked away without saying a word.
These are just a couple examples of what I remember about trout fishing and I am sure I can come up with a lot more. If you trout fish I am sure you can come up memories of the past about stream trout fishing.

Help in corkies for barrier dam in salkum washington.?
almon and steelhead are thick out here right now and I was wondering what color and size of corkies are being used to catch these things. I've been twice and used flouresant orange which I only had 2 hits and one on then off but im watching people reel them in time and time again some with weghted rigs and some with corkies but no differant than im using. So maybe its not my luck but wanted to know if anyone is getting exceptional luck with a certain something. Thanks for your help.
Corkie color choices could very well be one of the problems. I use Salmon Pink with Pink yarn (depends on conditions) on egg loop riggin' for river Steelies. Steelhead are one of the most wariest species in the waters and patience is ONLY BUT ONE of the biggest factors in nailin' them. Have provided you with a' link/site (Salmon Trout and Steelhead) that I've been with for G _ d knows how long... Go through it and guarantee it'll do some teaching.
