Callaway Big Bertha Irons
Big Bertha. In the world of golf, this name is synonymous with forgiveness, feel and performance. Introduced Callaway Golf in 1994, Big Bertha Irons began a revolution with iron, designed to push the edge weight of the club. This unique design has become the foundation upon which Callaway would continue to improve, amazing us with each new model. In 1996, Callaway has released an updated version of the original Big Bertha Irons with a few modifications. In the new model, designers have used the size of the club head and the volume of the cavity to push weight farther into the edge of the club head. How do you cast with a fly fishing rod?
Ive been fly fishing for like a month now and ive caught bass, and some big bluegill. But i dont know if i casting right, Do any of you guys have good tips for casting with a fly rod? Im a beginner so dont get to complicated.
Or if you have a GOOD quality video that will help to!
And also my fly rod was given to me by my grandpa after he passed away so its like 40 years old, and im thinking of buying a new rod and reel combo. Do you have any suggestions on good rod and reel combo that could land bass,bluegill, and maybe even steelhead or pike?
There's loads of good videos on youtube. Search for Mel Kreiger, his tutorials are very simple and clear, and also his natural enthusiasm makes them quite fun to watch as well.
The most important advice I would offer is not to try and cast too hard, as it's about rhythm and timing rather than strength. Also keep your casting arc small, if you imagine a clock face the rod should stay between 10 and 2 while casting, some people even say to stop at 12 on the back cast and finish at 2 on the front cast. Also keep the wrist firm and don't flex it at all while your learning, but later on you may like to add a slight flick for a bit more power though.
Remember to let the line fully straighten out before starting the forward cast, and same when starting the back cast again.
When casting stop your arm firmly at the end of the cast as this helps the line "shoot" out better, this is very important.
I'd advise you use a WF (weight forward) line to begin with as it makes casting a lot easier, especially in wind.
Also I'd advise you find a place that offers cheap or free lessons before you do too much fishing as it's easier to learn proper technique the first time, rather than develop a bad technique and have to unlearn these bad habits later.
And lastly, I'd recommend you practice a lot on your lawn or at a park before going out onto the water, as there's nothing more frustrating than having to stop fishing every 5 mins because you caught a tree, or your line got tangled.
Sorry I can't recommend a good rod and reel for those fish as I only fish for trout.
