Squadala! We're off!!
Glass is the best product to store food in. It has no harmful chemicals that can leach into food, it is infinitely recyclable, and is safer to manufacture. The only down fall is it is heavy. That is the main reason food packaging has changed to lightweight plastics, it costs less to transport.
Plastics are toxic to make and can only be down cycled, that means the food safe #1 plastic can't be turned back into #1 plastic. There is the potential that a variety of chemicals will leach into the food or beverage over time. This is also what is happening with metal cans that are lined with plastics. Those plastics contain BPA, and there is increasing evidence that the chemical is leaching into the food and that that chemical is creating health issues.
